The first edition of the internal cultural festival – Sangamitra was organized on the 3rd of September. This was the first fest at the new campus on the outskirts of Chennai and everyone was looking forward to it. Despite the rains that decided to strategically come down a few mintues before the start of the programme, people were still upbeat and optimistic that it was a passing shower. And that’s what it was.

The first performance for the day was from the school children of our Karma Yoga Project who were invited to come and deliver the invocation song. The students from the school were in awe of the numbers in the audience and the college amphitheater itself.

Next, we had a rendition of a college anthem composed and written in tamil by our own students.

Uncle Bala was his usual exuberant self and was really happy at the preparations done in such a short time and shared a song with everyone and was delighted to be present at the function.

The day progressed with dances such as Bhangra, Garba, free-style and even Salsa. As always, the dances were lively, and had the audience cheering for the performers who dazzled us with their moves on stage.

The students had also put up a hilarious play which was based on the Mahabharata, but that was where the similarity ended. The second play of the day, which was a tribute to all the fine professors and staff who have helped the students, was hilarious to the point where even some of the staffs present were in splits. It was all tasteful and in good humour.

The highlight of the evening was the mime performance by our very own students that had the audience amazed as to the hidden-talent amongst us.

The programme culminated with the debut performance of the Great Lakes Institute of Management rock band, ”The Straight F’s” who energized the crowd with classic rock songs and left the audience wanting more.

The rest of the evening was spent burning up the dance floor, music provided by a DJ from Chennai. At the end of it all, the students went back very contented at the great show put up by their fellow students and are eagerly awaiting the second edition, to be held early next year.
