Great Lakes Institute of Management is a dream child of Prof. Bala V Balachandran of Kellogg School of Management, Chicago.
This institute has been established with an objective of creating an international class management educational institution in Chennai. Great Lakes is supported by a very eminent Business Advisory Council and Academic Advisory Council consisting of luminaries from the Business world as well as the academia. This enables the school to deliver in the form of teaching, training, research and consultancy but also make it relevant to the needs of the industry in today’s globalized context.
In a short span of five years, Great Lakes has made a significant mark in terms of providing top quality MBAs, state of the art corporate training and executive education, consultancy services and research that is focused on India. The running theme in all the above has been to create a global mindset with strong Indian roots. The response from the student community, the corporate and the academia bears out the fact that we are on the path of success. In this context, I would also like to mention about the Centers of Excellence and Chair Professorship that have been set up at Great Lakes, namely “Marg Centre for Excellence in Infrastructure” by Marg Constructions Ltd and “Union Bank of India Centre for Excellence in Rural Banking” by Union Bank of India and “T. S. Srinivasan Chair Professorship on Entrepreneurship” by TVS Capital Funds Limited.
Recently we have moved into our permanent building which is eco-friendly, energy efficient and a Green campus spread over a 16 acres land near the famous monument of Mahaballipuram near Chennai. It is a residential state-of-the-art campus with different blocks dedicated to research, faculty offices and housing, administrative, student residences, recreation centers, etc. The entire campus is 100% day lit, recycles all its water and waste and uses a lot of reused and recycled products as some of the measures towards making it a green campus.
India is poised to become a great economic power. Such a growth requires great capabilities and skills on the part of the corporate and individual managers. You need new paradigms, bench marks and practices and our endeavor is to be catalyst in this development.
